Dr. Christopher Moran, Chairman of Co-operation Ireland mourns his friend and champion of peace, Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, Martin McGuinness

Co-operation Ireland hosted many of the peace building initiatives in which Mr. McGuinness participated, most notably the historic handshake with Her Majesty The Queen at the Lyric Theatre.

“I am hugely saddened to learn that my friend Martin McGuinness has lost his battle against the illness which has robbed Northern Ireland of a genuine peace maker. Martin, along with Peter Robinson, was an enthusiastic champion of Co-operation Ireland and its activities. He was not afraid to take risks outside his own comfort zone and in doing so provided leadership across the whole community.  His death will be deeply felt across the entire political spectrum. My sincere condolences to his wife, family, friends and colleagues.”
